The 2013 Harlem Crit

Welcome to the 40th Annual Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic!

This historic community event provides a unique opportunity for cyclists from all levels and age groups to converge on the streets of Harlem in a day-long celebration of cycling filled with competitive, high-speed racing, music, food and family entertainment.

Founded in 1973 by David Walker, a Community Affairs Officer with NYPD’s 25th Precinct, the Skyscraper was designed to attract children to a cycling safety and racing program through the excitement of professional racing, and to offer amateur riders a chance to race in a beautiful urban setting.  The race has come a long way since then and so has Harlem.  Abandoned buildings and brownstones were the race’s backdrop in the 70’s and 80’s but now those same buildings are prime Manhattan real estate.

This year's event will take place on Father’s Day, June 16, 2013, at Marcus Garvey Park (121st Street and Fifth Avenue). This historic community event provides a unique opportunity for cyclists from all levels and age groups to converge on the streets of Harlem in a day-long celebration of cycling filled with competitive, high-speed racing; music, food and family entertainment.
